In advance of a Midnight Run, students pack food for people living on the streets of Manhattan
One of the Hope congregation’s 2019 Chapter Calls is to “share and promote a counter-cultural way of being.” The Center at Mariandale is putting this call into action by hosting “alternative Spring break” trips. Throughout March, Mariandale hosted college groups from Adelphi, Holy Cross, Misericordia, St. Anselm’s, and St. Joseph’s for immersion in care of Earth and service to the poor. Here’s what the students had to say:
- “This is a perfect space for one to let go and live simply through prayer and appreciation of nature.”
- “Environmental advocacy is so important and it’s great that this was a focus.”
- “It was life changing. I LOVED every service experience. Each…had [a] unique lesson to teach us.”
- “An unforgettable amazing experience.”
- “I have a lot more gratitude for everything in my life.”
- “This experience… showed me that there are many ways to serve others.”
- “Through this trip I’ve learned to pay attention, be present, and to interact with….compassion.”
- “I am just reminded …how much I take for granted and hope to change and give back more.”
- “My faith really grew this week.” “God bless you all!”
