Sister Anne Gordon, OP (Sister Anne Jude), of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, died on May 15, 2026, in Neptune, New Jersey. She was 86 years old.

Born on May 7, 1940, in Trenton, New Jersey, Anne was the youngest daughter of the late Imrich and Mary (Polansky) Gordon, who emigrated to the United States from Slovakia in 1921 with their two eldest sons. Two older daughters had previously died in Europe, and both son John and Joseph, were later killed in World War II. Anne’s sister Mary, who predeceased her by 4 years, was her lifelong friend.

Sister Anne entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, New York, in September 1959. She made her First Profession in August 1961 and her Final Profession in August 1966.Sister Anne graduated from SS Peter and Paul Elementary School in 1955 and Cathedral HS in 1959, both on Trenton, NJ. She earned a BA in Education from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York, and an MSW from Rutgers University.

Between 1961 and 1976, Sister Anne taught at St. Lawrence School in Lindenwold, New Jersey; Sacred Heart School in Camden, New Jersey; St. Mary School in Gloucester, New Jersey; and St. Rose School in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. She also worked in social services at Camden County Hospital in Lakeland, New Jersey; the American Institute of Mental Studies in Vineland, New Jersey; Mt. Laurel Nursing Home in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey; and Ancora Psychiatric Hospital in Hammonton, New Jersey. She later served as food service manager at Ministry to Ministers in San Antonio, Texas, and taught at Little Flower School and Saint Gregory School, both in San Antonio. After returning to the Northeast, she continued her teaching ministry at Holy Trinity in Passaic and St. Joseph in Jersey City, New Jersey. In 2009, she retired from teaching at Notre Dame School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

Sister Anne was always proud of her Slovak heritage and her Trenton roots. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles. While living in Asbury Park, New Jersey, she especially enjoyed her ocean view and riding her scooter along the boardwalk.

Sister Anne is survived by her Dominican Sisters of Hope; her nieces, Judy Walton, John J. Walton (Suzanne) and Kathy Walton Ludwig; and her grandnieces and grandnephews. She is predeceased by her niece Mary Jane Wall and her nephew Christopher Walton. Anne will be remembered most for her generous heart, her love for family, her warm sense of humor, and the lively conversations she so enjoyed sharing with others.

Funeral services will be held on June 17, 2026 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ 08690. Remembrance Service at 9:30 AM, and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM followed by burial in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Trenton, New Jersey.
