Sister Margaret Mary Rottinghaus, OP of the Dominican Sisters of Hope died on August 20, 2023. She was 94 years old.

The daughter of the late Frederick and Philomena Steinmetz Rottinghaus, she was born May 19, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Sister Margaret Mary entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor on October 10, 1950, made her First Profession May 1, 1952, and Final Profession May 1, 1955. Sister Margaret Mary earned her BS in Nursing from the College of Mount Saint Vincent and her MA in Religious Studies from Providence College.

Sister Margaret Mary served as a staff nurse in the Dominican Sisters Home Health Agencies in Ossining (1958-68) and Hampton Bays, New York (1968-69, 1978-83) as well as in Cincinnati, Ohio (1977-78). She was a member of Central Administration of the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor from 1966-1976. She worked with the Dominican Sisters Family Health Service in Hampton Bays NY, as supervisor of special programs and community relations from 1983 until her retirement.

Sister Margaret Mary is survived by her Dominican Sisters of Hope and her niece and nephew.

She is predeceased by her parents Fredrick and Philomena Rottinghaus, her brothers William and Howard and her sister-in-law Joann.

A celebration of Sister Margaret Mary’s life will take place on Monday September 11, 2023, in the chapel at the Center at Mariandale, Ossining, New York, beginning with a prayer service at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Immediately following the liturgy, Sister will be buried in the Dominican Sisters of Hope Cemetery at Mariandale, Ossining, NY.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brooks Funeral Home, Newburgh, NY.
