Sister Marion Michael Beagen, OP of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, died on May 30, 2023 at St Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center in Caldwell, NJ. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late Michael Joseph and Marion Hein Beagen she was born September 9, 1930 in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Sister Marion Michael entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, New York 1956, made her First Profession June 13, 1958, and Final Profession August 21, 1961. She earned Master’s degrees in Religion from LaSalle University and in Christian Spirituality from Creighton University.
Sister Marion Michael taught at Saint Anthony School in Hawthorne NJ (1958-60), Saint Rose School in Haddon Heights, NJ (1960-61), Sacred Heart School in Camden, NJ (1961-62), Holy Trinity School in Passaic, NJ (1962-64), Saints Peter & Paul School in Trenton, NJ (1964-70), Saint Mary School in Newburgh, NY (1970-71), and Sacred Heart School in Newburgh, NY (1971-72). Sister also was director of religious education while at Saint Mary’s and Sacred Heart in Newburgh, NY. Sister was full-time director of religious education at Sacred Heart in Newburgh, NY (1972-79) at Star of the Sea Parish in Long Branch, NJ (1979-81), and at St. Ann’s Parish in Nyack, NY (1981-85). She was attendance secretary at the Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, CA (1985-86). She returned to the northeast and taught Religion at Franciscan High School in Mohegan Lake, NY (1986-88). She then moved to Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY where she was college specialist in children’s literature at the library.
Sister Marion Michael retired and moved to Meadowview at the Wartburg in Mt. Vernon, NY December 2014.
Sister Marion Michael is predeceased by her parents and her brother, Michael Joseph Beagen. She is survived by her Dominican Sisters of Hope her brother William. She is also survived by her nieces, Patricia Beagen and Eileen Daniel and her nephew, Michael Beagen and their families.
A celebration of Sister Marion Michael’s life will take place on Friday June 9, 2023 at the Dominican Center, in the Chapel of the Most Holy Rosary, at Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, NY. The viewing will take place starting at 9:15 a.m. followed by a wake service at 10:15 a.m., and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following the liturgy Sister will be buried in the Dominican Sisters of Hope Cemetery on the grounds of Mount Saint Mary College.
