Dominican Sister of Hope Connie Kelly, OP is a published poet who’s written over 250 poems and is currently working on publishing an anthology. For Sister Connie, poetry blends a creative and religious experience. She says that all of her written words are from God, that poetry “actually becomes part of prayer.”
Below, she shares her 2017 poem Alleluia! Light of Truth.
Alleluia! Light of Truth
Alleluia!
Go
take your place
speak out from where you stand
bringing the light
of truth
of God’s love offering all
for you,
for me,
so all may have life
Speak truth
the truth
that a light has come
into the world
that darkness
is only temporary
when you,
I,
we
live in this truth
Make it known
that we never
walk this journey alone
when we choose
to live in the light
when we choose
to live out of
truth,
love,
hope,
and faith
Be a witness
to the living truth
which bears light
proclaims God’s word
hears the cry of those in need
acts out of love
radiates joy
reflects gratitude
inspires hope
believes in goodness
Be light
prefer light
speak light
encounter light
let all you
do,
hear,
and see
be the light
of truth
Alleluia!
